Harm Reduction
At Adam’s House of Hope, we embrace a compassionate and non-judgmental approach to harm reduction, meeting individuals exactly where they are on their journey. We celebrate every step forward, acknowledging that even reducing substance use, rather than complete abstinence, is a significant achievement. We believe that everyone's path to recovery is unique, and by mitigating the harms associated with substance use, individuals gain valuable time and stability to make positive changes in their lives.
What is Harm Reduction?
Harm Reduction acknowledges that illicit drug use is not a problem that will disappear on its own. Utilizing harm reduction techniques can reduce the harm caused by drug use and give people more time to make the choice to seek out a healthier life. The forms of harm reduction we promote are as follows:
Using less dugs** If you have lessened your usage - Good for you!
Narcan - every person saved by Narcan gets a chance to improve and seek out the freedom from their usage. We know many people who are here today thriving because they were saved with Narcan.
Testing kits - Accidental overdoses still happen frequently. Giving people the ability to test for the most dangerous substances can help prevent accidental overdose.
Hygiene - We believe people should have access to first aid supplies, hand sanitizer, facemasks, hygiene supplies. This helps lessen the spread of germs that can lead to more serious problems.
Reproductive Health Services - connect people to professionals who provide access to testing and birth control, empowering individuals to prevent unintended pregnancies and address sexually transmitted diseases and infections
Come in and meet with a Harm Reduction Specialist every Wednesday from 11am - 2pm
In collaboration with our community partners, we offer harm reduction kits to ensure they are readily accessible to anyone who may benefit from them.
Narcan
We provide free Narcan to prevent opioid overdose, along with xylazine and fentanyl test strips provided by Overdose Lifeline. We understand that the illicit drug supply is unpredictable, and these tools empower individuals to make informed decisions and reduce the risk of accidental exposure to more dangerous substances.
